During the pandemic, I was able to identify serious cracks in the process of applying for vaccination and tracking COVID-19-positive patients. The experience to me was outdated and seemed to have several risks for high-risk patients (like my father). When we got to the National Arena, my family and I were asked to write our names down on the list, and instructed to join the line. After waiting for some time we were allowed to enter the Arena, While walking in we were handed a COVID-19 vaccine form and a brochure to read then directed to sit in a specific section.

From this point each group was then taken to another section of the arena where we were asked to wait, then our group was vaccinated. This method involved us constantly moving from one section to another, waiting, and then repeating, till we eventually made it to the vaccination room. I didn’t understand why we couldn’t automatize and make this a seamless process so while sitting in the National Arena waiting for our group to be called I pulled out my notebook and started sketching the beginning of what I thought this could look like.
I came up with GetVax, I had a lot of fun designing the logo which is a combination of 2 bandaids that make a heart and resemble a syringe.

In this UX case study, we’ll explore the design process for a COVID-19 vaccination app tailored to the Jamaican population. The primary goal of the app is to facilitate easy access to vaccination information, and appointment scheduling, and to promote vaccination awareness and public health in Jamaica.

Before diving into the design, it’s essential to conduct research to understand the needs and preferences of the Jamaican population regarding vaccinations. This can involve surveys, interviews, and analyzing existing data on the Covid-19 vaccination rates and barriers in the country.

Based on the research findings, I created user personas to represent different target user groups.

Considering the research and personas, we identify the essential features of the app:
Covid-19 Vaccination Information: Clear and concise information about various vaccines, their effectiveness, safety, and frequently asked questions.
Covid-19 Vaccine Locator: A map-based feature to help users find vaccination centers near their location.
Appointment Scheduling: Users can book appointments for Covid-19 vaccinations at their preferred health centers or clinics.
Push Notifications: Users receive reminders for upcoming appointments and essential Covid-19 vaccination updates.
Health Records: Users can access their vaccination history and records through the app.
Educational Resources: In-app articles, videos, and infographics to raise awareness about Covid-19 vaccination benefits.
Multilingual Support: Offering the app in multiple languages, including Jamaican Patois, to cater to all segments of the population.
Get Vax User Flow
Then I created a sitemap and define the app’s navigation flow to ensure a logical and user-friendly structure.

Next I focused on developing low-fidelity wireframes to visualize the app’s layout and interactions. The goal was to craft an appealing visual design that resonates with Jamaican culture while ensuring a user-friendly interface with vibrant colors and intuitive icons.

The Next steps would’ve been to launch the app on app stores with proper marketing strategies to create awareness and encourage downloads. Collaborate with local health authorities to promote the app and its importance.
